About us
Rowing against exclusion (RAEX) calls for gender-collaborative training
Also known as COED (CO-EDucation) approach to be adopted by gender-segregated teams, and suggests that where there is resistance to any integration, teams start with mixed physical workouts and progress to mixed sport-specific training and then mixed competitive training.
Arguing against ‘common sense’ notions of essentialist gender differences based on sex categorization, RAEX called for sporting prowess to be viewed as a continuum, highlighting that female athletes outperform male athletes in athletic accomplishments not limited to feminised acts such as grace and flexibility. Viewing sport as a continuum, rather than a gender binary or hierarchy, would show that men and women compete with overlapping performance outcomes and capabilities. This could also lead to greater gender integration in sport, particularly if competitive sport was organised through weight, size or age rather than by gender.
Train with Us: A Path to Coed Rowing
Thanks to the international collaboration of our coaches across Europe, RAEX offers a structured training approach designed to support mixed-gender (coed) crews—both for beginners and experienced rowers.
In this section, you’ll find a growing library of home workouts, gym sessions, ergometer (ERG) training, and on-water plans. These resources are tailored to help athletes develop strength, flexibility, coordination, and above all, team dynamics that are essential when rowing in mixed crews.
Whether you’re part of a club or training on your own, this is your starting point for embracing an inclusive, balanced, and sustainable training style.
Row together, grow together.
